The Apprentice (Bay Area Style)

Posted In:

Expanding apprenticeship opportunities is a key strategy in the Bay Area Council’s efforts to meet the region’s growing workforce needs. The Council’s Workforce of the Future Committee met Monday (March 25) to discuss how we can continue to promote apprenticeship programs in 2019 and other strategies for better preparing a diverse workforce. The Council wants to build on its great progress in 2018, when it impacted career pathways for more than 2,000 students and job seekers.

Committee Co-Chair and Union Bank executive Julius Robinson moderated a panel discussion on the topic with Lauren Fernandez (SAP), Liz Lowe (Adobe) and Joshua Arce (San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development). Employers connected on ways to further leverage community college training to serve specific industry needs, connect historically under-represented populations to apprenticeships, and ways to link up existing construction training programs throughout the region.
