Council Welcomes United States Ambassador to the European Union
The Bay Area Council on Wednesday (March 27) welcomed U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland for a wide-ranging discussion of U.S. government priorities and strategies in Europe. Ambassador Sondland’s portfolio covers the full range of U.S.-European relations, including trade negotiations and digital policy, many of which deeply impact Bay Area companies. The discussion covered the current state of trade negotiations, and data and copyright policies that concern the technology community. The discussion also provided an inside perspective on the Trump Administration’s thinking regarding US-European relations broadly.
Through the Economic Institute, the Council is actively engaged with European partners on a wide range of topics that link the two economies. Those links were the focus of a 2017 study by the Economic Institute that looked at the dynamic process that every year brings hundreds of European startup and early stage companies to the Bay Area, many of which stay and grow in the region.
