Big Week in Sacramento for Council-Supported Legislation

Fanning out across hearing rooms in the state capitol, Bay Area Council policy leaders this week testified in support of five housing bills that all won approval. The legislation included AB 1485 (Wicks), which would provide CEQA streamlining for missing middle housing; AB 1485 (Chiu), which would create a regional housing entity; AB 1483 (Grayson), which would bolster data collection and reporting on housing performance; AB 1717 (Friedman), which would provide incentives for housing in transit corridors; and, SB 13 (Wieckowski), which would streamline permitting of accessory dwelling units, aka granny or in-law units. With long-standing local resistance to approving new housing, elevating the state’s role through these and other legislation, including SB 50 (Wiener) to address the crisis is critical.

The Council also testified in support of AB 890 (Wood), which also won committee approval and would remove restrictions against nurse practitioners providing a range of critical front line healthcare services.
