Study Will Explore Bringing Ferries to Berkeley
The Council has been a champion of expanding regional ferry service to help alleviate traffic congestion and Council CEO Jim Wunderman is Vice Chair of WETA. The study will look at building a ferry terminal to the East Bay city as part of a larger project to reopen the shuttered Berkeley municipal pier. The location of the proposed terminal more than a mile from the nearest housing and jobs raised legitimate concerns about whether it would attract enough riders to support the investment. The study will seek to answer that question. Wunderman voted to approve the study.
