Mary Huss Elected 39th Bay Area Council Chair
Mary Huss, President and Publisher of the San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley Business Journal, this week was elected the 39th Chair of the Bay Area Council. Huss has been a longtime and active member of the Council’s Executive Committee, an important voice in guiding the organization and is one of the region’s most respected and accomplished leaders. Since 1991, she has grown the Business Times into the largest and most profitable of the American City Business Journal’s 43 publications. Under her leadership, the Business Times and Business Journal have become the premier sources of breaking and in-depth reporting on the Bay Area business community, technology industry and our economy. Huss takes the Chair’s gavel at a critical time for the Council and its more than 325 member companies, as we work to expand and deepen our regional leadership and influence on such key issues as transportation, housing and homelessness. She is the second woman to serve as Chair.
The Council extends its deepest thanks to outgoing Chair Bernard J. Tyson, Chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente. Under Tyson’s two-year tenure as Chair, the Council expanded its member base, led the successful Regional Measure 3 transportation funding campaign, increased our influence in the state capitol, launched a strategic assessment to position the organization for continuing growth and success, and became a leading voice on addressing the region’s homelessness crisis. The Council will celebrate Tyson’s contributions and welcome Huss to her new role during our Annual Dinner and Bay Area Business Hall of Fame on Nov. 14.
