Workforce Discussion Focuses on Performance Management
Performance management and the evaluation of an employee’s value in a company have been identified as an important issue for many Bay Area Council members. Last Friday, the Workforce of the Future Committee convened Council members to discuss best practices and lessons learned from their own performance management systems. Participants highlighted the importance of ensuring diversity and inclusion are foundational elements of any performance management system. Language and wording play key roles in employee evaluation, and it is essential for this language to reflect everyone participating in the workforce.
Leaders said providing measurable goals as part of employee evaluations is critical to accurately gauging performance. Knowing what skills and techniques employees use to achieve those goals is also very important, with specific emphasis placed on working collaboratively. The workshop, which was generously hosted by Council member Bain & Company, generated a robust and productive discussion, gathering insights from a variety of industries. Based on employer input, the next Best Practices Workshop will focus on pay equity and transparency in the workplace.
