Member Spotlight: Via
Via is the world’s leader in on-demand public transit and has more than 70 micro-transit deployments across the world, including six partnerships with cities and transit agencies in California — LA Metro, the City of West Sacramento, Orange County Transit Authority, Marin Transit, SamTrans (Pacifica), and soon the City of Cupertino.
In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve economic and social mobility, cities need to dramatically upgrade public transit and get more people to use shared modes of transportation instead of driving their cars. Via was founded with the idea that affordable, on-demand, dynamically routed shuttles could do just that. More than 60 million micro-transit rides later, we now have a proven playbook for transforming mobility in communities of all kinds.
Our micro-transit systems are creating first/last-mile connections to transportation hubs and fixed-route services, eliminating transit deserts, and upgrading legacy paratransit services—all while getting people out of their cars and reducing congestion and carbon emissions. In Los Angeles and Seattle, we have created first/last mile connections between low-income areas and transit hubs. In Arlington, TX, we operate the only public transit in the entire city.
We are excited to be part of the Bay Area Council and look forward to working with all its members on improving transportation in the Bay Area and beyond. To learn about partnering with Via, please contact Director of Strategic Partnerships Megan Richer.
