UC Merced Marks Key Milestone
This week the Bay Area Council joined member UC Merced at its highly-anticipated ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the second phase completion of a $1.3 billion campus expansion – a tremendous milestone delivering a new complex of 15 buildings. Merced 2020 project is one of the largest and, arguably, most complex social infrastructure projects in the nation. The Bay Area Council Economic Institute played a critical role in guiding the university’s use of a public private partnership to undertake the ambitious project. The third and final delivery phase already underway is set to open next fall. The ceremony also honored retiring UC Merced Chancellor and Council Board Member Dorothy Leland for her visionary leadership and creativity in developing the campus and making UC Merced an important center of education and research in the Central Valley.
