Alaska Airlines Joins California Resilience Challenge
Alaska Airlines this week joined the California Resilience Challenge, pledging $100,000 to help communities across California improve their resilience to climate change, including droughts, wildfires, floods, and extreme heat events. While California’s successful efforts to reduce carbon emissions is seen as a model around the world, communities across California remain vulnerable to the impacts of climate change already underway.
The Bay Area Council-administered Resilience Challenge was launched last year to raise funds from businesses, philanthropies, and utilities, to support climate change adaptation planning efforts across California. This fall, with the funding from Alaska Airlines and other supporters, the Challenge will launch a statewide competition to identify innovative local projects aimed at increasing the state’s climate resilience. More to come on that soon. To learn more about the California Resilience Challenge or make a contribution, please contact Vice President Adrian Covert.
