New Ferry Service Coming to Alameda Next Year
Following on the success of the new Richmond-San Francisco ferry service that launched earlier this year, the WETA Board of Directors on Thursday approved the final agreements needed to enable ferry service to the new Seaplane Lagoon Ferry Terminal in the City of Alameda, with service expected to begin in summer 2020. The Bay Area Council was instrumental in creating the Water Emergency Transportation Authority and has long advocated for the expansion of water transit as a solution to our region’s congestion problems. Council President and CEO Jim Wunderman, who serves as Vice-Chairman of the WETA Board, believes the new terminal will enable expanded and improved service to Alameda and Oakland, and is the next major step in creating a world class water transit system for the Bay Area.
