Casita Coalition Earns National Recognition
Co-founded by the Bay Area Council, the Casita Coalition was recently named as a Top 25 finalist for the Ivory Prize for Housing Affordability. Sponsored by Ivory Innovations, the Ivory Prize was launched last year to recognize businesses, foundations, non-profits, community leaders, and others that are working to lower the cost of housing. The Ivory Prize recognizes awardees in three categories: construction and design, finance, and public policy and regulatory reform. Finalists will be judged based on ambitious, feasible, and scalable solutions to housing affordability. Winners will be announced in April.
The Casita Coalition is a network of professionals dedicated to encouraging “naturally” affordable forms of housing around the state, and to shift housing construction from exclusive to inclusive neighborhoods through improved state and local policies.
“I’m delighted that the Casita Coalition is receiving national recognition for our efforts to promote accessory dwelling units and other small housing forms to help families and communities create more room and more housing opportunities near jobs and loved ones who otherwise are being increasingly being pushed out,” said Casita Coalition Chair Denise Pinkston of TMG Partners. “The efforts of Casita Coalition and our members have already begun to add tens of thousands of homes to California communities desperate for more and more affordable housing. We look forward to advancing in this exciting process to promote creative solutions towards housing affordability.”
