Statement on Protests in Wake of George Floyd’s Death
The Bay Area Council today issued the following statement on the protests taking place in response to the death last week of George Floyd in Minneapolis. “The intense pain and anger we all feel over the tragic and senseless death of George Floyd is rooted in generations of racial inequity and discrimination against Black Americans. Protests and demonstrations are a necessary and important expression of grief and outrage against this long history of unresolved racism and racial injustice in our country, but violence, looting and destruction of public and private property are never okay. The terrible events of this past week remind us all of our accountability and responsibility for ending racial hatred and discrimination once and for all. The Bay Area Council is an ally in the fight for racial justice and is committed to building social, economic and cultural institutions that respect racial equity, equality and justice.”
