SF Bay Ferry Celebrates Opening of Expanded SF Terminal

This week the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA), joined by Mayor London Breed, state Senator Scott Wiener, Assemblymember David Chiu and leaders from the Port of San Francisco, celebrated the long- awaited completion and opening of the Downtown San Francisco Ferry Terminal Expansion Project. This exciting project triples WETA’s San Francisco Bay Ferry capacity in the city core, creates resilient infrastructure for emergency response activities and provides the public with a grand new open space on the San Francisco waterfront – especially necessary during this social distancing times. The Bay Area Council was instrumental in creating WETA and its predecessor, the Water Transportation Authority, and has long advocated for developing a regional ferry system serving all parts of the Bay.

“We’re working to build a world-class ferry system in the Bay Area. Downtown San Francisco is a critical hub for that system, now and into the future,” said Bay Area Council CEO Jim Wunderman, chair of the WETA Board of Directors. “This project is an enormous accomplishment for WETA, the Port of San Francisco and the entire Bay Area.
