Housing Committee Welcomes Sen. Wiener, Talks 2021 Legislative Strategy
This week, the Bay Area Council’s Housing Committee met to shape our legislative strategy for 2021. The meeting was kicked off by Chair Mary Huss, President and Publisher of the San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley Business Journal, who welcomed attendees and introduced state Senator Scott Wiener, a fierce leader in the battle to pass meaningful, statewide housing reform and wonderful partner to the Council. Senator Wiener reflected on the poor housing outcomes of the 2020 state legislative session and the path forward for 2021. Committee Co-Chair Dave Hopkins of Sares Regis Group shared insights on the housing market and Council Senior Vice President Matt Regan discussed some of the bills the Council is planning to introduce next year, including re-introductions of an ADU financing bill (AB 69 – Ting) and a bill to allow residential zoning on commercial lots (SB 1385 – Caballero). The Council is continuing to develop other bill ideas and welcomes your feedback. To share your thoughts, please contact Policy Manager Kelli Fallon.
