11th Economic Profile Highlights Sluggish Recovery
The Bay Area Council Economic Institute on Thursday (Oct. 22) released its 11th Bay Area Economic Profile, marking over two decades as the Institute’s flagship product and an invaluable resource for the region. Presented by Fifth Third Bank, the virtual release event featured national, state, and regional forecasts from Fifth Third Bank’s Chief Investment Strategist Jeff Korzenik; Economic Institute Chair and Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research Director Mark Duggan; and Sarah Bohn, Vice President of Research for the Public Policy Institute of California. Presentations focused on COVID-19’s impact on the economy, the likelihood of a recovery in 2021, and which structural changes are likely to remain permanent.
The Institute has launched a new website, The Bay Area Council Economic Profile, to track regional recovery, analyze key economic indicators and synthesize trends in data from the California Employment Development Department and Bureau of Labor Statistics. The profile website can be found at www.bayareaprofile.com. The Institute will release updates highlighting special topic areas regularly, focusing on innovation, regional migration, housing and transportation, higher education, labor participation and more.
