Replay: Doctors Creating CA’s COVID Vaccine Guidelines Discuss Process
As multiple potential COVID-19 vaccines enter larger-scale efficacy trials, hopes are growing for a release of one or more vaccines sometime in early 2021. Along with hopes for a vaccine, many questions are also arising about the safety, availability and distribution of any vaccines. To answer those questions, the Bay Area Council Healthcare Committee this week (Nov. 9) hosted a webinar with three doctors serving on California’s COVID-19 Drafting Guidelines Workgroup, which is working to develop California-specific guidance for the prioritization and allocation of a COVID-19 vaccine. The webinar was particularly timely with news Monday that a vaccine being developed by Pfizer showed 90% effectiveness in trials in stamping out the disease.
The webinar included Randy Bergen, MD, Immunization Lead at Kaiser Permanente for Northern California, Bernard Lo, MD, Director of the Program in Medical Ethics at UCSF and President Emeritus at The Greenwall Foundation in New York and Jeffrey Silvers, MD, Medical Director of Pharmacy and Infection Control at Sutter Health.
