WETA Launches New Alameda Seaplane Lagoon Route, Increases Other SF Bay Ferry Services

This week (July 1), the Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA), the City of Alameda and Alameda Point Partners hosted a ribbon cutting celebration at the new Seaplane Lagoon Ferry Terminal in Alameda to mark the launch of a new route offering direct weekday commute service between Alameda and downtown San Francisco. The Terminal was set to open last year, but WETA made the difficult but necessary decision to delay the opening to focus on a core set of services for frontline workers and essential travel.

The launch of this new route coincides with WETA’s July 1 introduction of increased services, representing the highest number of daily departures that the agency has ever offered. These services, together with lower fares, are part of WETA’s Pandemic Recovery Program and will help incentivize the return of riders to the ferry system while attracting new ones and support the reopening of the regional economy over the next year.
