Jim Wunderman Answers Questions about Regional Ferry Service
As the Bay Area makes good progress in stamping out COVID and business activity picks up around the region, so has ferryboat traffic on the bay. Today, even as many people continue to work from home, more ferries are traversing bay waters than at any time in recent history. Passenger traffic on the boats has steadily grown in recent months, helped in part by temporary cuts in fares. The rise in ferry service has also come with many questions about its future. Are ferries a meaningful alternative to cars? Can they help make a real dent in the Bay Area’s commuter woes?
To help answer these and many other questions about ferry service, Bay Area Council CEO Jim Wunderman today (Sept. 10) joined regional news service Bay City News for a live question and answer session. In addition to leading the Council, Wunderman is also Chair of the Water Emergency Transportation Authority, the largest agency responsible for ferry traffic on the bay. The Council was instrumental in creating WETA.
