Save the Date: Celebrate the 2021 California Resilience Challenge

Join the Bay Area Council Foundation the evening of Monday, February 28 for a hybrid virtual and in-person outdoor reception in San Francisco to celebrate the winners of the 2021 California Resilience Challenge! Following a competitive RFP, the Challenge will award over $2 million in climate adaptation planning grants to 13 under-resourced communities across California. The winning projects showcase the state’s leadership in climate adaptation and reflect California’s extraordinary geographic and social diversity. “The California Resilience Challenge is a truly unique, only-in-California initiative in that it brings together diverse private sector partners to support strengthening climate resilience in communities across the state,” said San Mateo County Supervisor David Pine. “I’m looking forward to learning about all the innovative and creative approaches taken by the winning proposals.”

The California Resilience Challenge is an initiative of the Bay Area Council Foundation and is supported by a diverse group of stakeholders, including businesses, utilities, nonprofits, and philanthropies who all contributed resources to establish the initiative. The California Resilience Challenge 2021 Steering Committee includes representatives from JPMorgan Chase, Kaiser Permanente, Wells Fargo, PG&E, Resources Legacy Fund, Southern California Edison, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, and Valley Water. Additional sponsors include Wareham Development Group, Bank of America, LinkedIn, and CSAA Insurance. The RFP was developed in partnership with companies and non-profits serving on the Resilience Challenge Advisory Committee, including AECOM, Ceres, Climate Resolve, Environmental Defense Fund, The Greenlining Institute, Guidiville Rancheria, Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, NAACP, The Nature Conversancy, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, The Solutions Project, and Urban Habitat.
