Bay Area Council Leads North-South-Valley Coalition to Boost Drought Resilience

The Bay Area Council and the Southern California Water Coalition this week asked state leaders to commit $6.5 billion from the General Fund towards strengthening California’s drought resilience as the state sinks deeper into the third year of a historic drought. The coalition’s top priority is a $1.76 billion request to vastly expand water recycling in California. Recycled wastewater is a proven drought resilient water supply and can help diversify the economy’s reliance on vulnerable rain-and-snow based systems.

The request also included funding to repair aging dams and aqueducts, groundwater storage, regional interties, desalination, modern data systems, water sector innovation, and more.
