Warriors Make a Splash, Heading to NBA Finals

The Bay Area Council sends congratulations to the Golden State Warriors, whose Rick Welts sits on our Executive Committee, for handily defeating the Dallas Mavericks (that’s a Texas team, right?) and advancing to the NBA Finals for the sixth time in eight years. It’s an incredible accomplishment after two years removed from the playoffs, and Thursday’s Western Conference victory came after a challenging week for the Warriors with Coach Steve Kerr dealing with a COVID infection and then the unimaginable pain we’ve all experienced in the wake of the tragic and senseless mass shooting on Tuesday in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 young children and two teachers dead and many others badly injured. An emotional Kerr, whose father was killed by an assassin’s bullet, captured national attention on Tuesday after speaking passionately about the need for gun control. Our hearts go out to all the innocent victims of this horrific tragedy, their families and everyone affected.
