Building Support for More U.S. Investment in Housing
The Bay Area Council and 30 of our members met this week with Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg to hear more about a new initiative they are launching, a federal advocacy organization called Mayors and CEOs for U.S. Housing Investment. A bipartisan coalition of mayors from across the country, the organization has significant alignment with the Bay Area Council on many policy priorities, such as changing federal affordable housing rules holding back investment in the Bay Area.
The Council updated the mayors about our increasing focus on homelessness and public safety, which complement our legacy focus on accelerating housing production to end the Bay Area’s housing crisis. Council member companies Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, East West Bank, Airbnb and Uber have joined as partners, and Schaaf and Steinberg said they are looking for more corporate members.
