Bay Area Council member United is planning to add 2,200 jobs at San Francisco International Airport next year as part of a purchase of 100 new wide-body jets and 270 smaller jets, the largest such acquisition in commercial aviation history. The new jobs include everything from pilots and baggage handlers to ramp workers to flight attendants. The new jobs will boost United’s presence at SFO to 12,200 employees and support the airline’s expansion of service, including new nonstop flights to Rome and Brisbane, Australia. The announcement brings more good news for SFO, which was recently named the best airport in the country by the Wall Street Journal.
