Council Mourns Passing of Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle
A tireless champion for his community, Alameda County District 2 Supervisor Richard Valle has passed away at the age of 73. He is remembered as a passionate advocate for environmental and social justice and, most of all, his constituents. As supervisor, Valle secured funding for social programs and mental health services for children and families, promoted STEM education, advocated for walkable neighborhoods and much more.
Valle first served as a Union City Councilmember from 1997-2010 and was elected to Alameda County Board of Supervisors in 2012 to represent an area that includes Newark, Union City, Hayward and part of Fremont. In addition to his political life, Valle founded social service agency Centro de Servicios and non-profit recycling company Tri-CED Community Recycling.
The Council’s condolences go out to his wife, Barbara, his children and grandchildren.
