Gilead Unveils New R&D Facilities, Highlighting Bay Area Life Sciences Growth
As a continuing sign of the boom in biotechnology in the Bay Area, the Bay Area Council helped celebrate the opening of two new state-of-the-art R&D buildings on Gilead’s Foster City campus on Thursday. The ribbon-cutting ceremonies were led by our Board member Joydeep Ganguly, who runs Global Operations at Gilead, and featured Gilead Chairman and CEO Daniel O’Day, Congressman Kevin Mullin, Assemblymember Diane Papan, the Mayor and City Council of Foster City and several top scientists and research leaders at Gilead.
The laboratories offer more than 85,000 square feet of space, designed to accommodate the Virology Research teams’ growth over recent years and to integrate sustainability throughout. The operations will support current and future projects, including efforts to develop cures for HIV and hepatitis B, investigate new treatments for COVID-19 and work on the next generations of HIV therapies in both treatment and prevention.
