Council Members Step Up as San Francisco’s APEC Planning Picks Up Steam

Preparations for the arrival of the APEC Leaders Summit in November are picking up steam with recent data from the office of San Francisco Mayor London Breed showing they’ve nearly reached the halfway point in raising the $20 million in private contributions needed to put on the historic event. With a recent $1 million contribution from Bay Area Council member Kaiser Permanente, the total raised now stands at $9.34 million. In addition to Kaiser, 12 other Bay Area Council members have contributed almost $7.2 million of the total, including the top five donors.

“We’re pleased to share that we have just about reached the halfway mark in our fundraising efforts,” Maryam Muduroglu, chief of protocol of San Francisco, who is overseeing the fundraising effort, said in a storyappearing in SF Standard. “San Francisco businesses are investing generously in APEC because they recognize the impact of the city making its mark globally this November.”

The APEC Leaders Summit will convene the heads of state from 21 economies across the Asia-Pacific region, including President Biden and China President Xi Jinping, to discuss a wide range of economic and other topics.

The city isn’t the only one preparing for the event. Alongside the city’s programming, the Bay Area Council will be hosting its own APEC Meets California and Silicon Valley from November 13-17 aboard our floating headquarters, the historic Klamath, with a series of forums, discussions and other valuable business and networking activities. Leveraging our deep connections with APEC, federal, state and local officials, and foreign consulates, the Council’s weeklong event will provide our members the opportunity to engage with visiting heads of state, high-level foreign ministers, foreign business leaders and delegation members that will be here for APEC and engage on the core issues addressed by APEC that impact your company.
