Housing Streamlining Bill Gets a Big Win
The Bay Area Council applauds state Sen. Scott Wiener on his resounding success in passing SB 423, which extends his landmark housing production streamlining initiative, through the Assembly, its toughest test of the Legislative process. Since it was originally passed as SB 35, the law has helped many Council members and others streamline the production of nearly 20,000 new homes, reducing approval times from several years to a matter of months, according to the UC Berkeley Terner Center. The NorCal Carpenters, one of the sponsors of SB 423 and a Bay Area Council member, was particularly effective in getting the bill through. With this year shaping up to be another banner year for housing legislation behind the Council’s powerful advocacy, we encourage you to engage with our Housing Committee by contacting Vice President of Housing Policy Louis Mirante.
