Join the Bay Area Council, PPIC, and Carnegie California for a program and reception with Dan Breznitz, a leading scholar on innovation who most recently served as Senior Advisor for Innovation to Canada’s Ministry of Finance, for a forum with other leading policymakers and scholars examining how to keep California at the forefront of the global economy. California is a land of contrasts. Home to many of the United States’ largest and most iconic companies, best universities and most productive farmland, the state also suffers from remarkable income inequality. Inland regions rank at the bottom statewide for worker earnings and poverty. Climate change and overuse of water resources will likely make the disparity worse over time. Fortunately, California is also one of the most innovative places on earth, and in addition to drawing on its own extensive resources can adopt and adapt innovative solutions from other jurisdictions. We’ll explore these topics and more during a lively and interactive series of discussions.
