Council Names Assemblymember Buffy Wicks Regionalist of the Year

| The Bay Area Council this week (March 19) announced Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) the recipient of our Regionalist of the Year award. Each year as part of our Sacramento Day, the Council bestows its coveted Regionalist of the Year award on a Bay Area legislator who has played a leadership role in working to address some of the key challenges we face in the Bay Area. “Assemblymember Wicks has been a powerful force in championing real solutions to California’s housing and homelessness crisis,” said Jim Wunderman, President and CEO of the Bay Area Council. “Through her leadership as past Chair of the Assembly Housing Committee, legislation like her AB 2011, and other important reform measures she is driving, Assemblymember Wicks is giving us a fighting chance to end decades of housing obstruction and deliver the housing we so badly need. Her efforts are helping create good-paying jobs and providing the housing our region and the entire state needs to attract workers and investment and remain economically competitive. “Assemblymember Wicks is one of the most engaged and thoughtful people in Sacramento when it comes to planning for, approving, and funding housing at the regional level. We look forward to partnering with her on the many permitting and other reforms still needed to accelerate the construction of new housing and the water and energy infrastructure to support a vibrant economy,” Wunderman added. “Tackling our region’s housing and homelessness crisis is one of my most important missions as a legislator, and I am so honored to receive an award that recognizes my commitment to that mission,” said Assemblymember Buffy Wicks. “I look forward to building more and more momentum through bold housing action, and I’m grateful to have partners like the Bay Area Council to help our region meet critical goals in this space.” |
