KEY THUMBS UP FOR COUNCIL’S WORK TO BUST HIGHWAY 101 GRIDLOCK

The Bay Area Council’s Highway 101 initiative is picking up steam and supporters, including a welcome endorsement from new California Transportation Commission Executive Director Will Kempton at last Friday’s (March 13) Bay Area Council Transportation Committee meeting under the leadership of Chair and Arup North America Principal John Eddy. The Council’s initiative is focused on expanding and managing carpool lanes, deploying active traffic management technology, and expanding ridesharing—all within five years. The Committee was joined by representatives of several of our agency partners—Metropolitan Transportation Commission, San Francisco, and San Mateo—and our legislative partner, Assemblymember Kevin Mullin. Mullin recently introduced AB378 that provides the call to action for 101 corridor improvements. Project development and legislative components will converge later in 2015, with a specific suite of corridor improvements and a set of enabling statutory solutions.
