CA-CHINA TRADE OFFICE AND VISA WELCOME TOP CHINESE BANKING OFFICIALS
The California-China Office of Trade and Investment hosted California Board of Equalization member Fiona Ma and Assemblymembers Phil Ting and Kansen Chu this week at a luncheon honoring 14 top Chinese banking officials participating in Visa’s annual training program for public servants of Chinese government agencies. Visa’s “SAFEA Program” educates Chinese government officials about the U.S. financial system, and the institutions and regulations that govern it. This year’s delegation includes the Deputy Directors General at the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Financial Work and the Nanjing Branch of the People’s Bank of China, as well as high ranking representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Shanghai branch of the People’s Bank of China, the National Development and Reform Commission, the State Information Center, the China Banking Regulatory Commission, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, and other statistical and regulatory institutions. Vice Chairman Ellen Richey of Visa joined California-China Advisory Board member and moderator Alan Siqueira of Wells Fargo Bank and Advisory Board members Kevin Xu of MEBO, Olivia Hsu Decker of Sotheby’s International Realty, and Beverly Bian of East West Bank in welcoming the group.
The California-China Office of Trade and Investment supports California businesses seeking to access the Chinese market; assist Chinese entrepreneurs looking to create jobs and expand business in California; and increase foreign direct investment into California. Opened in April 2013 by California Governor Edmund G. Brown, the Trade and Investment Office is a public-private partnership between the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development and the Bay Area Council. It provides free services throughout California and China.
