BAY AREA COUNCIL JOINS IN WELCOMING CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING
At a Seattle welcome dinner co-hosted this week (Sept. 22) by the Asia Society, Bay Area Council President and CEO Jim Wunderman represented the Council in welcoming Chinese President Xi Jinping for his first state visit. During his speech, President Xi emphasized, “We maintain close and effective dialogue and cooperation on almost all major international and regional issues and global challenges. The growth of the China-U.S. relationship has not only benefited our two peoples, it has also enhanced peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific and beyond.” The Council extends its thanks to Asia Society Co-Chair Henrietta Fore for bringing California business leaders together for the event, and Asia Society Northern California Executive Director Bruce Pickering and Director of Global Corporate Development Wendy Soone-Broder for their continuing partnership with Council on China issues and their leadership in analyzing foreign direct investment (FDI) opportunities from China.
Meanwhile, back in the Bay Area, the California-China Office of Trade and Investment and the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development on Monday (Sept. 21) welcomed important California and Chinese partners for the China Provinces and U.S. California Trade and Investment Forum. Exploring foreign investment, environmental technologies, and innovation ecosystems, an audience of 70 government and business leaders discussed the future of California-China collaboration and growth as both economies expand their trade relationships with each other.
