Lucas Museum: From Buzz to Action
Buzz is growing about the possibility of the Bay Area being reconsidered as a site for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art as the project hit new political and legal headwinds in Chicago. With the Lucas team saying that the troubles in Chicago may cause them to look at other cities, the Bay Area Council sprang into action to reiterate its proposal from early last year that Lucas revisit the Bay Area as a site, and we began reaching out to key leaders and other insiders about what it would take to position the region as a viable candidate.
The Bay Area lost out to Chicago in 2014 when Lucas pulled his proposal to house the museum at The Presidio in San Francisco over political squabbling. But determined opposition in Chicago over his proposed location there has reignited interest here, and the Council believes the Bay Area with its strong ties to Lucas and his companies would make an ideal fit for a cultural and artistic institution of global importance. As we develop a list of possible sites, we welcome your ideas for Bay Area locations that could be considered to house the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
