Council Comments on NAFTA Modernization
This week, the U.S. International Trade Commission held hearings to explore and receive input on modernizing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The hearings were in response to the May 18, 2017 notice to the U.S. Congress by United States Trade Representative Robert E. Lighthizer that President Trump intends to renegotiate NAFTA. The Council submitted a letter to the U.S. Trade Representative stressing the importance and benefits of free trade. The Council has long supported free trade worldwide and proactively seeks to expand foreign trade and investment opportunities for Bay Area companies. Given the high interest in the subject the U.S. Trade Representative has extended the public comment period to June 14, 2017.
