Community College Chancellor Deserves New Term
The California Community College (CCC) system under the leadership of Chancellor Eloy Oakley has embarked on a bold and innovative series of changes that are positioning the institution for future success in helping meet the state’s educational and workforce needs. The Bay Area Council strongly supports Chancellor Oakley as the CCC Board of Governors prepares next Tuesday to extend his contract for another four years. Oakley has led the creation of CalBright, an online extension of CCC that makes it accessible and responsive to the changing needs of students. Oakley has also worked to reform how funding is allocated to individual campuses to improve accountability, ensure better performance and promote stronger connections between the curriculum and future workforce needs. A new four-year term will allow Oakley to continue the important work of implementing these new initiatives.
