Critical Coastal Affordable Housing Project Approved behind Council’s Advocacy
The Bay Area Council was proud to help member MidPen Housing secure unanimous approval this week for their long-awaited and badly needed affordable housing project at Cypress Point in Moss Beach. The project, which is critical to providing housing for the farming and service-sector employees who contribute so much to the region and its vitality, was unanimously approved by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and county Planning Commission despite very vocal and organized opposition, a testament to the need for housing in the area as well as MidPen’s professionalism in building it. Through our Housing Endorsement Subcommittee, the Council gave its formal backing to the project, and housing policy Vice President Louis Mirante testified in support.
The project is 100 percent affordable and will bring 71 homes to San Mateo. The Council wishes to congratulate nonprofit MidPen Housing on this accomplishment even more because of the incredible delays they faced in going through the California Coastal Commission review process and bringing housing to one of the most challenging jurisdictions in the world.
