Take Action to Address Wildfire Risks and Impacts on Insurance

As wildfires and other natural disasters become more common and more costly in California, it has become clear that we are past time for a reset in how we measure these new risks and set the prices for insurance accordingly. These are issues the Bay Area Council is working to address through our climate resilience and insurance reform initiatives. It is also critical that homeowners take steps to make their homes more resistant to wildfire. One important step is to create a non-combustible zone of five feet around homes. This can be done by removing plants and decorative bark, large trees/tree limbs, replacing wooden fences and decks with fire resistant materials and ensuring that all vents and access points to your home are properly protected to prevent wind-blown embers from entering.
