4th Graders Learn About Business Through BAC Holiday Art Competition
It’s not always easy to get a product to market. One of the Council’s annual traditions is our Holiday Art/Marketing competition, where 4th grade students at Oakland charter school Achieve Academy create and submit artwork as part of a seven-week business unit. This project, now in its 5th year, has an important impact on the students, emphasizing the importance of grammar, spelling and creative design, introducing them to product development and marketing, and culminating in a field trip to visit Bay Area Council members. On the field trip, the students will see firsthand how businesses are run, meet successful executives and gain valuable experience. The contest has again resulted in some impressive work, with drawings by three students being selected for the cover of the Council’s holiday cards. In all, 24 students were recognized for their work. Click here to view the finalists artwork.
