Member Spotlight: Blue Shield
Blue Shield of California, a taxpaying, nonprofit health plan, is proud to model diversity and gender equity starting at the top of the company. Effective this month, Blue Shield elected Kristina Leslie as the first woman to chair its Board of Directors. Additionally, the company also announced two new appointments to the board of directors that will result in the 12-person board achieving gender balance, with women now leading four of the board’s five standing committees. Blue Shield is one of the largest companies in California to achieve gender balance on its board.
Additionally, Blue Shield achieved pay equity for its employees across gender and ethnicity in 2018. It has a balanced representation of women and men in leadership roles and it was recently selected as one of America’s Best Companies for Women to Advance by Parity.org.
