The California Resilience Challenge is an unprecedented, statewide initiative of the Bay Area Council Foundation that helps communities across California improve their resilience to climate change. Last year the Challenge raised $2.5 million from a diverse coalition of businesses, utilities, and environmental non-profits and awarded climate change adaptation planning grants to 12 communities whose proposals were chosen for their innovation, replicability, and social equity.
For the next round of grants, the Challenge will have a strong emphasis on racial justice. Too often, communities of color and economically disadvantaged communities are located in areas more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
