BART Making Good Progress on Measure RR Work
The Bay Area Council was proud to help lead the regional campaign that succeeded in overwhelmingly passing Measure RR in 2016 to provide BART with $3.5 billion in funding for a wide range of critical infrastructure upgrades, repairs and improvements. BART isn’t wasting time in making good use of the money. A report out this month by the citizen oversight committee appointed to ensure the funding is spent properly found that BART is ahead of schedule in delivering the projects promised by Measure RR.
According to the report, through March 2021, about $866 million of Measure RR funds have been invested in rebuilding projects. A total of 126 projects across the system are in their planning, design, or construction phases. Another 22 projects have been completed. About 25% of Measure RR work has been completed, which exceeds projections made by BART when Measure RR was put before BART district voters in 2016.
