Bay Area Council Applauds WETA’s Pandemic Recovery Program
Yesterday (April 1) the WETA Board of Directors, chaired by Bay Area Council CEO Jim Wunderman, unanimously approved its Pandemic Recovery Program after a robust comment period yielded overwhelming positive feedback. The fare structure adopted in the program reduces fares throughout the WETA system for a one-year period to generate ridership and attract riders back to the system. The program also adds more off-peak trips to increase service options and simplifies the fare structure and fare payment options to expand its ridership base.
As the Bay Area begins to see traffic congestion rise again, implementing a program to incentivize riders back to public transit is imperative to keep our region out of gridlock. The Bay Area Council congratulates WETA for its proactive leadership in introducing this innovative program, which will begin in July 2021.
