Big Win for Bay Area Council Capital Transportation Funding Priorities
Nearly $141 million in state funding will flow to important public transportation projects across
the region that the Bay Area Council championed as part of a state grant competition. The
funding was part of $690 million in grants statewide that the California State Transportation
Agency (CalSTA) announced on Monday (April 24). The Transit and Intercity Rail Capital
Program (TIRCP) grants are aimed at improving and expanding public transportation while
reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
This new investment in public transit systems comes at a critical time, as strengthening our rail,
bus, and ferry systems will help draw riders back to transit and support our region’s economic
recovery. See the full list of projects here.
