Council Hosts Early APEC Planning Meeting
The Bay Area Council this week (Feb. 1) hosted business and government leaders aboard our floating headquarters, the Klamath, for an initial discussion on planning for the prestigious APEC Leaders Summit coming to San Francisco in November. It will mark the largest gathering of global heads of state, including President Biden and China President Xi Jinping, in San Francisco in history. The gathering is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors, equal to the largest conferences hosted by the city, and generate significant economic benefits.
Council President and CEO Jim Wunderman joined San Francisco Chamber of Commerce CEO Rodney Fong in welcoming leaders to hear from Sean Elsbernd, Chief of Staff to Mayor London Breed, on what to expect in the coming months. Travis Kiyota, Head of Global Corporate Affairs for East West Bank, also spoke about the important role business will have in organizing the summit and shaping the agenda. East West Bank CEO Dominic Ng is President Biden’s lead advisor to APEC representing the business community.
