Long-Awaited Highway 101 Express Lane Project Begins
Easing congestion along the important Highway 101 corridor connecting San Francisco and San Jose through Silicon Valley has long been a focus of the Bay Area Council’s transportation advocacy. That’s why we were thrilled to see construction start Tuesday on a project to build express lanes on Highway 101 in San Mateo County. The Council was an early and ardent supporter for building the express lanes, which will serve buses, carpools and solo drivers willing to pay a toll. The Council’s advocacy helped secure some the hundreds of millions needed to do the work. It’s part of a larger project to create a seamless stretch of express lanes running from San Jose to San Francisco. Work on the project is expected to last two years.
