The Future of the Waterfront with Supervisor Danny Sauter

Last week, the Bay Area Council’s Waterfront Initiative welcomed San Francisco Supervisor Danny Sauter for a dynamic discussion on the future of the waterfront. Joined by our Waterfront Initiative co-chairs, Enrique Landa, Managing Partner at Associate Capital, and Geeti Silwal, Principal at Perkins&Will, Supervisor Sauter engaged with our members on key challenges and opportunities shaping our shoreline.
The wide-ranging conversation explored adapting to sea level rise, expanding ferry transit and transit-oriented development, and streamlining permitting to support a thriving, resilient waterfront. Our members brought a myriad of stories of different ways outdated regulations have made it difficult, and at times impossible, to deliver urgently needed amenities on the waterfront. With growing interest in enhancing the Bay as both an environmental and economic asset, the discussion reinforced the importance of public-private collaboration in shaping its future.
We appreciate Supervisor Sauter’s leadership and look forward to continuing this critical dialogue. Stay tuned for more updates and progress from the Waterfront Initiative as we advance policies to support housing, transportation, and climate resilience along the Bay.
