Changing Nature of Work Requires Upskilling and Retraining
The future of work is increasingly gaining traction among business leaders, educators, and government officials alike. The pressing nature of this topic becomes more relevant as automation of jobs makes headlines, such as this week’s announcement of Amazon introducing new technology that will automate boxing up customer orders. The Bay Area Council’s Workforce of the Future Committee is taking a leading role in being at the forefront of this discussion.
Through our various initiatives designed to engage employers in the workforce development space, the topic of upskilling and retraining today’s workforce has been important for discussions of automation and the future of work, particularly relating to low-wage and low-skill jobs. Training techniques such as upskilling and retraining will be key to ensuring our future workforce remains competitive with the future skills employers will require.
